The history of Bohinj tourism

One of Slovenia's most beautiful tourist spots (although it hasn't really been discovered by tourists yet ? this is one of the reasons for being so beutiful) is the Bohinj valley in Upper Carniola region, about half an hour drive from much better known Bled center. Like Bled's, apartments Bohinj also have a lot to offer. Bohinj 's got it's own lake, which is quite a lot bigger but Bled's church in the middle of the lake is 'missing'. Almost every winter the lake freezes, so it's a special sight to see if you visit Slovenia in that season.

You could rent apartments Bohinj in the begining of the 20th century already. That's when the rail connection between Jesenice and Gorica was built. After the first world war this connection was useless because of the new made border between Yugoslavia and Italy, so tourism in Bohinj went downward. In 1981 the Bohinj lake was included into the Triglav National Park region, the only natural reserve in Slovenia. This brought some problems for the tourist sector but it keeps te environment around the lake protected. Consequently you can't see enormous hotel centers anywhere near when you rent apartments Bohinj.
